Often we wrestle with these things alone, but actually, we don’t need to! Jesus is right there, waiting for you to hand over everything that weighs you down, so He can lead you on the path of righteousness, victory and overcoming. He has called you to Him because He has made you an overcomer of all issues, challenges or problems. Sin. Circumstances. Life itself cannot overthrow you, so give over to Jesus, anything which threatens to weigh you down, or threatens to entangle you like a chain.
You must have heard that proverb, “A problem shared is a problem halved”? It’s not actually one of the Biblical proverbs, it’s an olde English Proverb. But actually, it wouldn’t surprise me if it was firmly rooted in Scripture, anyway!
Because first and foremost, the Bible tells us,
“Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
Which follows on from what Peter heard Jesus saying,
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
Secondly, God places people around us….when He first made woman He basically said, “it is not good for man to be alone”. And because we’re made in His image, this ability to relate to each other, to empathise, to show compassion, to share burdens, and discuss the matters of the heart is evidence of the relational character of God.
We’re made in the image of the Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit; and while you may be alone in a particular moment, you’re never truly alone because God Himself is with you, and He uses the people around you to bring you that encouraging word, that pep-talk, that godly advice, that text of prayer JUST WHEN YOU NEED IT MOST!
Each member of the Trinity relates to the other – relationship is literally foundational of who God is. He has not made any of us to be islands – separately trying to work this thing called life out alone… He will use us for other people, and He will use other people to spur us out of our pity party….both people we like, and those we….errr…. Aren’t so quick to have a coffee with!
We are made in His image
But we are also His body, as I said earlier. None of us can say we don’t need others. “The eye can’t say to the hand, “I don’t need you” and the head can’t say to the foot, “I don’t need you”
Ecclesiastes 4:10 says, “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.”
Because as we’ve already seen in Proverbs 12:26, “the godly give good advice to their friends…”
No matter how much “social media stalking” we do into another person’s life, none of us can ever really appreciate what anyone else is really going through, so…
Let’s be people who not only what it means to walk tall in the confidence and assurance God has given to us through Jesus, but may we also be people who step into each other’s world in order to build up and encourage them to walk tall. If you see anyone “slouching” today, ask God to use you to cause their heads to be lifted.
